Wolfson Press , 2nd ed. 2009

ISBN: 978-0-9799532-0-0

Kurt Simon left his village on the Mosel River in 1930. He had just turned 16. Kurt came to South Bend, Indiana, where his cousins owned a wholesale grocery firm. He worked his way up to become President in 1962 and under his leadership the company transformed itself into one of the area’s premier suppliers of institutional foods and supplies.

Kurt Simon has always been inspired to give back to his community and became one of South Bend’s major benefactors.  In 2008 Kurt returned to Germany and his village for the first time in 78 years. To his amazement, a neighbor, now in her 80’s, recognized him right away, and he received a warm welcome. On his return he said, with tears in his eyes, “It’s the Heimat after all.”
